Congratulations to AMSA Malaysia’s Scientific Paper Team!

Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Malaysia made its name when it emerged Second Runner-Up in the Scientific Paper Competition in The 31st Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC) 2010. AMSC 2010 themed “Geriatric Medicine: Comprehensive Approaches for a Better Quality of Life” took off in Jakarta, Indonesia last week with the participation of 392 delegates from 18 countries from Asia Pacific and beyond.
Thirteen countries which were Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Mongolia presented their paper in this conference. Malaysia’s scientific paper led by Tan Pei Sun (UKM) under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr Rahmah Mohd Amin from Department of Community Health Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia highlighted problems faced and approaches in improving geriatric health care in Malaysia published a result of research assessing the quality of life of elderly in government nursing homes and the community. The paper was presented by Tan Pei Sun(UKM) , Kevin Tan Teck Meng (UKM), Grace Puang Xin Ru(UMS), Chew Chia Ying (UMS) and Kevin Chin (IMU).
With increasing health care services and life expectancy, Malaysian aging population requires better health care services in the geriatric field which is still not readily available currently. Through this research, AMSA Malaysia hopes to advocate to community and health care provider towards their roles in improving quality of lives among senior citizens who are important assets to Malaysia.
