Dear esteemed colleagues,
The Imperial College Surgical Society is hosting the 5th national conference on trauma medicine on the 30th to 31st of October 2010. We would like to sincerely invite you to this event of ours to be held at the South Kensington campus in London. The conference will last two full days starting around 8.30 a.m. and ending around 7p.m on Saturday the 30th and 6p.m on Sunday the 31st.
Our conference is aimed at medical students to provide them exposure in various aspects of trauma medicine. The conference will include 2 days worth of lectures from renowned surgeons as well as 8 hands on practical stations. Last year, our conference proved popular with tickets selling out within 4 days of release.
This year, we have the privilege of flying in Professor Kenneth Boffard, Editor-in-Chief of the Manual of Definitive Trauma Care from South Africa as our keynote speaker. We will also be having Dr Mohammad Ali Jawad, who pioneered the reconstructive facial surgery of Katie Piper among other distinguished individuals who would be providing lectures on the subject of trauma medicine.
For this year’s practical stations, we will be including 2 fully functional inflatable operating theatres, pioneered and developed by Imperial College London that provides simulated surgical training. Examples of other stations include intubation, usage of FAST scanners and venous cutdown.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be accepting abstracts for the Trauma Conference 2010 poster competition.
The abstracts will have to be on a topic related to trauma medicine or surgery. Accompanying images are allowed to be included with the abstract in the form of a poster.
Shortlisted abstracts will be displayed during the conference with the winners being announced on Saturday after lunch.
The deadline for abstract submission is the 15th of October 2010.
An optional Friday and Saturday night dinner will be announced with more details as we come closer to the actual date of the conference.
